Eventful, not boring.

I'm not going to lie, it has been boring lately! Boring is not the right word I guess.  It has definitely been eventful, just not exciting!  This little angel has been staying with us 3 days a week and together the girls and piano lessons keep me hoppin'.  The days are flying by fast now.
I knew that they would.  I have been cramming in all of my projects before this sweetheart came cause I knew my life would end I would always be busy with more than one child from here on out!  Devin's life has been pretty stressful and hard the last few years and mine has been a breeze.  Full of hobbies, projects, making money and little stress.  I think that things are going to flip flop from here on out.  He will have a steady job, hobbies and making money.  Obviously I have been prepping myself for this and it hasn't been that bad!  But everyday my only goal is to have more patience then the day before.  I have always enjoyed staying home and even when pushed to find projects they usually involved maternal organization or projects.  The one thing I crave is alone time (ie: getting ready in the mornings with music, excersizing without cartoons, reading a book outside that doesn't involve pictures)

Canning:
I went to Costco, determined to can peaches.  We (Devin was excited as well) had shopped around the entire valley and unless we drove an hour away to an actual farm, $1.31 a lb. was the best we could find (compared to .30 cents a lb. my mom found in Idaho!).  Later I talked to a few ladies and found out it isn't economical and women usually don't can around here cause it is so expensive unless you have a fruit tree.  3 days later the firm peaches looked like this:
Of course I didn't discover them until everything was washed and ready to go, my syrup was made and boiling and the my steamer was steaming!  Furious, I was out the door to meet Larry (nice Costco worker) to exchange them when our power went out for 12 hours!  Needless to say Jam and Salsa was nothing compared to my obstacles of peaches!  But they are done and we got a few bags of green beans blanched and frozen with Devin's help.  I am canned out and will not be getting out any shiney pots until next summer!  Next summer I want to try to add pears, applesauce and a different kind of jam.  Any lessons you have learned for me?
My time was filled with:
I have finished my Devotionals and will hopefully be laminating them in Idaho.  I'm so excited to go home!  I don't even care about the plane ride!  I finished my better-half lists.  I finished the majority of my Mother Book printables.  The one thing I didn't finish on my list was my New Year's resolution of doing holiday decorations and traditions.  I did find the cutest children's holiday books and a great Easter book.  Do you know of any cute holiday children's book?  I finalized my Christmas advent calendar - it is probably too much but it will take years to make the traditions, buy the books and set up the calendar.  I guess it is a blue print. And I'm working on a Christmas Concert for my students.  I am trying to find a very easy holiday song for a family that doesn't believe or celebrate Christ?  Any ideas?

Finally I would like to talk about the infestations for awareness.

1.) New Yorks infestation of bed bugs.  This is disturbing!  So I was visiting teaching the other day with cute Betty and Jamie said, "I just got bit my something when you walked in.  Looks like a mosquito bite."  Betty jumps up (we had been there maybe 3 minutes) and said she needs to leave.  Talk about awkward!!!!  I was dying.  I said Ok, mouthed "I'm sorry" to Jamie and we left.  She then couldn't stop talking about how she couldn't breathe in her house and that she couldn't believe I was ok.  Sorry Jamie, my companion is 80 and watches tv all day!

Here is an article on the subject.  It is scary though!

2.) Stink Bugs
I counted 10 of these things in my bedroom yesterday until I found the crack in the window!  They are disgusting and just big enough that I can't kill them without hearing a crunch (that is my line) and then regretting it after they smell!

Here is an article on the subject.

I think I am going to say farewell to blog until Idaho!  But real fast, another question.  Do you have any good toys or candy for long plane rides?  Has anyone slipped a little something something to their kids for it?  I have an Elmo back pack B loves to wear so I want to fill it with toys and candy.  She doesn't care about tv.

good luck with the plane ride! i have heard doing a new toy, etc. every so often helps (like in 15 minute intervals or something). take lots of snacks, books, toys, whatever B loves.

i am going to can 50 pounds of pears tomorrow...i am stinking nervous! i have never ever canned before! but i got the opportunity to get them straight from a farmer for free and they are organic and local. all i have to do is can them and give half of the cans to the farmer (and he's even reimbursing me for the jars). i'll let you know how it goes!!

Way to persevere with the canning. I would have been so mad that my peaches went bad! And yuck about the bed bugs and stink bugs. We get so many crickets here and I totally hate the "crunch" too. Have so much fun in Idaho. Going home is the best!

I'm nervous for you to come to our house. I feel like I won't be organized, won't cook well enough etc, etc. Ahhhhh!
Jingle Bells, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer, Chestnuts roasting on an open fire...,

One word: Magnadoodle!!!!!!!!!
I just went to Target and bought a bunch of little toys that might entertain her. One of which was a kaleidoscope. That actually entertained Story for like 20 minutes or something. Yes, drug her up! It's totally safe. Not kidding. you can ask her pediatrician how much he suggests to give her. Good luck! Are you flying SW? There is a magazine in the front pocket of the seat. Totally entertained story for like an hour. I pointed to things, let her flip through pages/rip pages out.

My mom gave Braden a "goodie bag" for the plane ride that had new things. Books, crayons, cars, etc. The thing that worked the best for us was just making the trip exciting. Pointing out the window, talking about what the people do. Suckers are good, but messy so have lots of wipes, and if you have a lay-over let them get out and RUN! (And when I say let them run, I mean make them run!) Braden was SO happy to sit down after we stopped for an hour! ;)

For our 25 hour drive, I bought new toys at like target dollar center and the dollar-ish center at toysRus. I pulled one out every time he got fussy, and it did the trick. Saved the best for the last day and they really worked. Good luck! I wish I was going to see you!!! Way to go with canning. Maybe someday I'll do that. :)
