(PS the picture above is ridiculously staged but I don't care - I love it!)
. . . For the following reasons:
-you forget the hard reality and appreciate the good reality
-you leave stress behind
-embrace memories, making the most of every moment
-extreme activities
-put yourself out of your comfort zone for a fun time
-eat well, sleep well
-stand back and look at your life
-feel rejuvenated
At least this is what I have decided should happen on ever vacation now. Yes, this vacation set the bar high . . . really high!!!
Here is a list of what we accomplished from Saturday to Saturday:
*Ate crab cakes and shrimp at local restaurant
*Went crabbing - there were a so so so many on the beach at night!
*Cooked the crabs - it was hilarious watching the guys in the kitchen!
*Ate the same crabs: This is a picture of the same two, blue crabs above = they turn red!!!
*Found a giant inverted trampoline on our bike ride
*Successfully took a jumping picture in OBX paraphernalia with a bunch of girls: we jumped so many times!
*Successfully took a nice picture of everyone except Ani and Daniel who came the second half of the week.
*Glow in the Dark Ultimate Frisbee Game: Happy Birthday Chad! It is a lame picture but we went all out with glow in the dark, color coordinated bands duck-taped on our arms.
*Kite Surfing: OK just Dev did this one!
*Buried a lot of people: Brynlee enjoyed the sand and waves from day 2 on! Tyler was Poseidon on steroids and I am a ripped volleyball player!
*did a lot of boogie boarding and some surfing: I still got it!!! No pictures of me though - lame!
*thoroughly enjoyed the Cape Hatterus Light House: the tallest in North America
*watched the BSU game on the big screen: the fact that I couldn't keep my eyes open during the ENTIRE game does not make me less of a fan!!!!! GO BSU!
*and mostly relaxed on the beach
We were so lucky:
-our house wasn't damaged from Earl
-the mandatory evacuation ended the day we checked
-the beaches weren't even touched or affected by the storm
-no rip tides
-beautiful weather = 80 degrees and sunny every day with 80 degree water
The food arrangements were prefect, everyone's meal was just divine! And we had a fun time hanging out with all the different couples at different times. I loved playing games at night!
The bad part:
DRIVING! We made it in about 10-11 hours each way but that kind of driving is never fun! Brynlee did well in the car and we had no major problems I just wish we could have tele-ported to Outerbanks!
I'm so glad we can check this vacation off the list as a success and although we will probably won't have time to go back again in dental school, we had a blast and I wouldn't change a thing!

You have no idea how heartsick this post made me! Those blue crabs are the best thing you could ever eat....yummm! The only thing it looked like you were missing was the Old Bay seasoning! Outer Banks was just a few hours from our house in VA and my relatives would get a beach house in Duck every couple years. I think we had to leave early because of hurricanes more years than not though. It looks like you had a blast!
I am just dying for the day when we can all teleport! Adam gets mad at me every time I talk about it because he said it will never happen. I'm convinced it will. :)
Your trip looks awesome! I'm so jealous!
That looks so fun!! I'm glad you had such an amazing vacation. You've earned it! We'll have to go there some time.
I'm so gald you guys had fun on your trip. I love all the pictures! I hope your trip to Florida will be just as fun. Just so you know, we bought boogie boards in preparation of your visit. Luke also bought a wakeboard so him and dev could go wakebaording. Don't ask. We don't have a boat.
It turned out so beautiful and I'm glad you weren't affected by Earl. I'm hoping we can do something similar to this during one of the breaks so Adam will be on board. It's always a great way to get to know people even better too.
This trip looked incredible!!! And you are sooo dang cute, little mama!
What a fun trip it looks like you all had. It is so fun to see your little family. Wow time really does go by quickly it seems like just the other day you were all driving by the house and Travis was hanging out the window of Devin's burb...Next time you guys come home drop by we would love to see you all!
There is a couple of pictures in this group that I could have sworn look like Travis in...
